0:01 [Music] 0:06 hey what is up everyone is episode 83 of 0:09 the 1056 podcast we're in Hartford let's 0:11 let's set the scene where are we right 0:13 now we were invited nicely to join the 0:16 CT Brewers Guild Beer Fest yes we are as 0:18 we're recording this sitting underneath 0:20 the Excel Center and we'll get to that 0:22 we are looking at a sea of tents and 0:25 breweries who are here to demonstrate 0:27 what they got and celebrate Connecticut 0:29 craft beer yes all right and we're back 0:31 we are here with if you mind introducing 0:34 yourself oh my name is Becky my name is 0:37 Becky Becky yep welcome Becky uh for 0:40 Bistro buddy Bistro buddy correct tell 0:43 us a little bit about Bistro buddy so 0:45 Bistro buddy is a new platform with a 0:49 food and drink Focus so it's essentially 0:51 a place for really anyone within the 0:54 food and drink industry I mean really 0:56 including a lot of craft vendors when 0:58 they do a lot of craft events or vendor 1:01 events so it's a way to really connect 1:03 all of these vendors all of these food 1:06 trucks and all these breweries all these 1:08 restaurants with each other Food Markets 1:11 or farmers markets Farms all of it the 1:15 goal is to get the community built 1:18 because there's really no place right 1:19 now for everyone you know to really get 1:22 a hold of each other that's a good point 1:23 what um what made you come up with this 1:26 so actually it wasn't me that came up 1:28 with it um it was actually Jay that came 1:30 up with it 1:31 um so he's the developer and he's great 1:33 footage of us as we of course he is he 1:35 is 1:36 um so so he is actually the developer 1:38 this is a project that he's been working 1:39 on for at least three years there's it 1:43 actually started off with a restaurant 1:44 ordering or ordering systems for 1:46 restaurants oh wow you know right now 1:49 currently so I think one of the bigger 1:51 companies for restaurant you know 1:53 Payment Systems is toast so I don't know 1:55 if you know this or not but toast they 1:58 charge a flat fee of around I don't 2:00 wanna I don't I don't know specifically 2:02 but probably anywhere from 500 to a 2:03 thousand dollars per month and then they 2:05 also charge an additional 30 commission 2:08 actually no I think that's wrong I think 2:09 that's definitely wrong but I know but 2:11 there is a flat percentage or flat base 2:13 of value and then also a percentage on 2:16 top of it and it's killing small 2:18 businesses you know all these major 2:20 chains you know they whatever they can 2:23 handle that they make enough to justify 2:25 that with these smaller places can't I 2:28 mean it's the same with Uber doordash I 2:30 mean we are charging 30 on doordash even 2:34 if you if you place your order through 2:35 doordash and you're picking it up you 2:38 the restaurant is still giving doordash 2:40 twenty percent yeah 2:44 for them to steal your food yeah it 2:47 happened to me it happened it did was 2:49 that two greens or doordash doesn't 2:50 matter they still are Wendy's it wasn't 2:51 okay pretty much yeah it sucked a lot it 2:54 happened real story that actually did 2:55 happen yeah yeah I believe it I 100 2:57 believe it so like ideally for your road 3:01 map as far as like the business goes 3:02 what do you want to see happen in like 3:04 the next year as far as feature Buddy 3:07 goes in the industry well good question 3:10 um I mean realistically next year if we 3:12 could have our own event 3:14 that would be awesome so Jay actually so 3:17 Jay is a developer that's Jane 3:19 um 3:20 so he um he used to actually be an event 3:24 promoter in the Northeast in the early 3:26 2000s he was the biggest event promoter 3:28 of the Northeast wow so um I don't know 3:32 if you've ever heard of mutiny events or 3:34 uh spread the word events 3:36 Jay was involved with those events so 3:40 um the goal ultimately is to bring the 3:43 community together and throw community 3:45 events 3:47 I mean realistically we want everybody 3:49 to be able to have a platform that they 3:50 can use and actually Market their 3:52 business I mean right now I mean if you 3:53 are a business if you want to post and 3:55 share something you better pay for ads 3:57 or else your Facebook isn't going to 3:59 send it anywhere they don't care they 4:01 want you to pay for it yeah that's how 4:02 they make their money absolutely so if 4:05 we can you know I mean granted so there 4:07 is like you can have a free profile 4:09 where you can post pictures and 4:12 information about your business post 4:13 some deals and then you can also pay for 4:16 subscriptions that add more things onto 4:18 it of course so what are those things 4:19 that it adds 4:20 um so you can usually you can add more 4:22 events you can add more deals if you 4:24 have deals going on you can have more 4:26 pictures 4:27 um I mean it's really customizable too I 4:30 mean realistically your listing page can 4:32 be whatever you want it to be I mean of 4:35 course obviously with custom information 4:36 or custom setups obviously it's more or 4:39 whatever but it's just extra work 4:41 involved with it absolutely so is this 4:44 technically going to be a form of like 4:45 social media yeah it is so basically if 4:49 linked if LinkedIn ate Yelp and had a 4:52 food baby that is what that's an image 4:55 that is what Bistro Buddies 4:59 wow wow that's that's just asking for a 5:03 pain asking so much that is quite the 5:06 image so it's if LinkedIn ate Yelp and 5:09 had a food baby correct 5:11 I I like that a lot 5:14 because it is you got to get that on a 5:16 shirt but I mean we are we are literally 5:18 two months in and we just hit 4 000 5:21 Clicks in 28 days that's awesome like 5:24 this week it is hard to do especially 5:26 like when you're trying to disrupt this 5:29 food and beverage industry which is 5:31 already very saturated so it's good it's 5:33 awesome that's crazy are you seeing 5:36 those who are here at this beer fest 5:38 have they hopped onto your platform how 5:39 many have so I I don't know specifically 5:41 so I mean granted again we are just 5:43 getting started so we have people that 5:45 are registering on the website so like 5:47 you can link your Facebook to to Bistro 5:50 buddy and then just log in automatically 5:52 you can save restaurants I mean granted 5:54 we haven't entered too much in like 5:56 there's not like a crazy amount of 5:58 listings because we were doing it 6:00 manually to build up SEO because SEO is 6:03 important if Google if you don't happen 6:05 to have the SEO Google doesn't care no 6:07 they do not give a yeah so you will 6:10 have to make them give a about you 6:11 right and that is the goal it's it's 6:13 hard I got out of that game it's it's a 6:16 lot yeah you have to really know what 6:17 you're doing and that's really where you 6:19 guys he really is an SEO expert when I 6:21 say that I really he knows what he's 6:24 doing 6:25 he knows what he's doing I tried to 6:27 scratch the surface on that it is like 6:29 you really have to know what you're 6:30 doing you have to know what keywords to 6:33 use to drive traffic because it's the 6:36 first fold of the first page of Google 6:37 yeah and then everything else is 6:39 irrelevant essentially we 6:45 we uh we I think we're actually first 6:48 for the Meriden food truck festival so 6:50 like today is also the same day as the 6:51 Meriden food truck festival I don't know 6:53 if you guys know that today and tomorrow 6:55 we probably got close to a thousand hits 6:57 on the website today that's awesome 6:59 because of that I mean at least I mean 7:01 we won't know for a couple days but 7:02 right I mean it's crazy that's 7:05 absolutely so I have one last question 7:07 here what beer have you enjoyed the most 7:09 here today 7:12 [Music] 7:14 that's too hard you can tell us what's 7:16 in your class right now well this one 7:18 is 7:19 um oh what is 7:21 is that the sangria or whatever from 7:23 yeah it looks like it looks like that 7:24 sangria 7:26 oh she's taking a test I don't even 7:28 remember remind yourself I do not 7:30 remember is it good how about that oh 7:32 it's very good very good um shout out to 7:34 ever made it the best one I think I've 7:36 had is watercolor Stargazer oh it's 7:39 stargazing is are they here oh yeah 7:42 they're they're over there what are we 7:43 doing we missed they also have a 7:45 blueberry lemonade one which is also 7:47 amazing I have not had that what are we 7:49 doing I don't know I'm yelling in the 7:52 show 7:54 yeah no it's uh there's a lot of like 7:56 breweries here that are like tucked away 7:57 yeah but we gotta go check that out yeah 8:00 definitely um so it's Becky from Easter 8:03 Bunny so I also have a YouTube channel 8:05 so I have my own listing on Bistro buddy 8:08 all right so the goal is to include you 8:10 know social influencers sure so um I can 8:13 you can find me at the hometown Explorer 8:16 on YouTube as well as Instagram okay 8:19 um and then also you can find Bistro 8:21 buddy on Facebook Instagram and YouTube 8:24 um we are taking a bunch of video we're 8:26 also doing some interviews around here 8:27 hopefully we can hear them since we did 8:30 not bring a microphone it's so tough to 8:32 be fair we found out we were coming on 8:34 like Sunday so you'll be surprised we 8:37 actually sound will sound really good 8:38 this only picks up us right here that's 8:41 awesome 8:42 you get into existence thank you so much 8:45 for coming on yeah no problem thank you 8:46 for having me it was great to meet you 8:48 guys pleasure yeah
