New England's Original IPA
Harpoon Brewery: A Craft Beer Trailblazer Since 1986
Founded in Boston by Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti, Harpoon Brewery started with the goal of introducing European-style beer to the U.S. They received Massachusetts' first brewing permit in decades, debuting with Harpoon Ale.
Harpoon led the craft beer movement in New England with innovations like the Winter Warmer and Octoberfest. The 90s saw Harpoon IPA become its flagship beer, a symbol of its brewing boldness. Growth led to a new facility in Vermont, expanding their production capabilities.
In 2001, Harpoon deepened its community involvement with initiatives like Harpoon Helps and the Harpoon 5-Miler. A significant transition occurred in 2014 when Harpoon became employee-owned, strengthening its commitment to quality and independence.
Today, Harpoon is known for its diverse beer range, vibrant brewery experiences, and strong community presence, embodying a culture of quality, innovation, and social responsibility in the craft beer industry.
